Environmental Seeds - Cover crops

The use of cover crops in Ireland has ultimately been driven by environmental schemes; however in more recent years there is an interest in getting the most value out of cover crops in terms of Organic matter incorporation, soil improvement, nitrogen fixation as well as nutrient uptake. The vast majority of cover crops in Ireland is made up of brassica species as it has historically been the cheapist way of satisfying the rules of the environmental schemes. We see an attitude shift to cover crops in recent years and in particular to maximise the function of the crop as opposed to simply minimising the cost of the crop.

Environmental seeds     GLAS Wild Bird cover Scheme

The wild bird scheme is a very successful program aimed at enhancing and preserving our natural environment in a low carbon environmentally sympathetic way. 2020 will be the last year for trance 1 participating in the sheme however we believe this will continue in a similar format in the years to come.
